Strengthening of Livelihood Initiative for Home-Based Workers in the SAARC Region”

The South Asian Association for Regional Cooperation (SAARC) is an  organization focusing onupliftment of socio-economic conditions of the region’s homebased workers. The SAARC Development Fund (SDF) provides financial support to this initiative through Self Employed Women’s Association (SEWA) and HomeNet South Asia (HNSA) for carry out the mission of women’s empowerment in this region, by targeting poor/marginalized homebased workers from the informal sector of the economy.

This objective is being achieved by establishing Trade Facilitation Centres (TFC) based on SEWA Trade Facilitation Centre model which has successfully evolved as a business organization in India exclusively owned and managed by homebased artisans.  Homebased workers are provided with awareness, exposure, development, capacity building, intensive training and a fair knowledge of the mainstream market.  The key is to create strong, sustainable social business organizations with collective marketing power and sharing the experiences of one another’s success in order to build linkages and a scalable model of women empowerment within the SAARC countries.
